6 Days Kilimanjaro Mountain Trekking via Marangu Route

What to expect

The Marangu Route, affectionately known as the “Coca-Cola Route,” is one of the most classic and well-established paths to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. It is the only route that offers comfortable hut accommodations equipped with beds and dining areas, making it an ideal choice for climbers who prefer not to camp in tents. Its popularity stems from its gradual trail, scenic beauty, and the sense of community formed in the shared mountain huts.

The 6-day Marangu Route itinerary provides an extra acclimatization day at Horombo Hut, significantly increasing summit success rates compared to the shorter 5-day option. The route follows the same trail for both ascent and descent, starting in the lush rainforest zone and rising steadily through heath, moorland, and alpine desert before reaching the snow-covered summit of Uhuru Peak (5,895 m)—the highest point in Africa.

While considered one of the easier routes technically, the Marangu Route still demands strong physical fitness and proper acclimatization due to its rapid altitude gain. For those seeking a comfortable, scenic, and historically iconic Kilimanjaro experience, this 6-day journey offers the perfect balance of adventure and comfort—culminating in an unforgettable sunrise over the Roof of Africa.
