The Marangu Route, often called the “Coca-Cola Route,” is the only trail on Mount Kilimanjaro that provides hut accommodations instead of camping, offering trekkers the comfort of a warm bed and solid shelter each night. As the oldest and most established path on the mountain, Marangu combines tradition, accessibility, and scenic beauty, making it a favorite for those who prefer a more structured climbing experience.
This 5-day itinerary is the most direct route to the summit and back, following the same trail for both ascent and descent. While the path is less rugged and technically easier than other routes, its shorter duration allows limited time for acclimatization, which can make the climb physically demanding.
For experienced hikers or those confident in their ability to adjust to altitude, the 5-day Marangu Route offers a scenic and efficient ascent to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m). The trail leads you through five distinct ecological zones—from lush rainforest and moorland to stark alpine desert—culminating in a breathtaking sunrise summit at the highest point in Africa.
